The 29th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) has announced its selections for the “Korean Cinema Today – Special Premiere” and “On Screen” sections, featuring a diverse array of films and drama series.
The “Korean Cinema Today – Special Premiere” section highlights five films that are set to premiere, including four world premieres, showcasing the latest in contemporary Korean cinema. Among the films is A Girl with Closed Eyes , a thriller featuring Kim Min Ha and Choi Hee Seo that explores the complex relationship between a detective and a criminal. A Normal Family , directed by Hur Jin Ho, is a suspense thriller with Sul Kyung Gu, Jang Dong Gun, Kim Hee Ae, and Claudia Kim, centering on four individuals whose lives unravel after witnessing a crime involving their children.

Bogota: City of the Lost follows the story of Korean immigrants in Bogotá, Colombia, resorting to smuggling in a city of last chances, starring Song Joong Ki, Lee Hee Jun, Kwon Hae Hyo, Park Ji Hwan, Cho Hyun Chul, and Kim Jong Soo. Dirty Money , directed by Kim Min Su, is a crime drama about two corrupt detectives, featuring Jung Woo, Kim Dae Myung, and Park Byeong Eun. The lineup also includes Hear Me: Our Summer , a remake of the Taiwanese film Hear Me , starring Hong Kyung, Roh Yoon Seo, and Kim Min Ju.

The “On Screen” section showcases the six most attention-grabbing drama series, including four Korean and two international productions, all set for their global premieres. Beyond Goodbye , a Japanese melodrama starring Arimura Kasumi and Sakaguchi Kentaro, explores the connection between a heart transplant recipient and the girlfriend of the donor. Born for the Spotlight , directed by Yen Yi Wen, focuses on the lives of women in the entertainment industry, capturing their ambitions and dreams with a mix of humor and tension.
Dongjae, the Good or the Bastard , a spin-off of Stranger , stars Lee Jun Hyuk and Park Sung Woong in a high-stakes legal drama. Gangnam B-Side is a thrilling crime drama about a missing person case in Gangnam, featuring Jo Woo Jin, Ji Chang Wook, Ha Youn Kyoung, and Kim Hyung Seo.

Hellbound Season 2 , the follow-up to the hit series Hellbound , continues its exploration of a dystopian world under the direction of Yeon Sang Ho and writer Choi Gyu Seok. Way Back Love is a teenage coming-of-age fantasy romance starring Gong Myoung and Kim Min Ha, about a girl who reunites with her ex-boyfriend, now a grim reaper.
The 29th Busan International Film Festival will run from October 2nd to October 11th, 2024, at the Busan Cinema Center, offering audiences a chance to explore a range of contemporary Korean and international films and drama series.
