Former NCT member Taeil has admitted to all charges and expressed deep remorse for his actions.
The Seoul High Court held the first appellate trial for Taeil and two others on charges of violating the Special Act on Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes. This trial took place approximately two months after the appeal was filed with the appellate court.
On this day, Taeil and the two other individuals appeared in brown prison uniforms.
Both the prosecution and Taeil’s legal team cited “undue sentencing” as the reason for appealing the first-instance verdict, which had sentenced him to three years and six months in prison.
In his final statement, Taeil said, “I admit to all my crimes and deeply regret my actions. I know that the pain the victim feels cannot be fully healed by any words or actions. I sincerely apologize.”
He continued, “I will live with a heart of atonement for the rest of my life for inflicting irreversible suffering through my foolish actions. Witnessing the victim’s life and their family’s lives crumble due to my wrongful behavior, I have realized the gravity of my misdeeds.”
Furthermore, Taeil stated, “I will never commit another crime. I will not forget the weight of the law and will live honestly. I apologize once again for the harm I caused. I am truly sorry.”
In March, Taeil was indicted without detention on charges of sexually assaulting an intoxicated foreign woman in June 2024, alongside two other men. The court sentenced Taeil and the two others to three years and six months in prison in the first trial; both the prosecution and all three defendants have appealed.
Meanwhile, Taeil’s sentencing date for the appeal has been set for October 17th at 2:30 PM.
