Two of Korea’s biggest stars— Choi Min Sik and Han So Hee —are teaming up for the Korean remake of Nancy Meyers’ 2015 hit The Intern .

According to the Korean Film Council’s latest update on July 17th, Choi Min Sik and Han So Hee have officially been cast as the leads of the upcoming feature, which is currently in pre-production.

The film reimagines the original story for a Korean audience, centering on the unlikely friendship between a 30-something female CEO of a successful startup and her 70-something senior intern. The 2015 version starred Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro and became a global hit, earning $194 million worldwide against a $44 million budget.

Han So Hee will take on the role of Jules, originally played by Hathaway—a driven, passionate CEO who built a startup empire from scratch. Meanwhile, Choi Min Sik will step into De Niro’s shoes as Ben, the warm, wise retiree who becomes her unexpected right-hand man.

The original film resonated worldwide thanks to its fresh pairing of a career-driven working mom and an older male intern—a dynamic rarely explored on screen. In Korea, it was a massive box office success when it opened during the Chuseok holiday, attracting over 3.82 million moviegoers.

Han So Hee, who debuted in 2017, has made a name for herself through intense performances in The World of the Married, My Name, and Gyeongseong Creature. Choi Min Sik, whose filmography includes Shiri, Oldboy, and most recently Exhuma, is one of the most celebrated actors in Korean cinema.

Now, with The Intern being reimagined for a Korean audience, all eyes are on what new layers this version will add to timeless themes like generational gaps and work-life balance—topics that remain just as relevant nearly a decade later.
