Im Soo Jung has shared a hidden behind-the-scenes story about the legendary poster from her classic drama, I’m Sorry, I Love You .

On the July 29th episode of YouTube talk show Salon Drip 2, Im Soo Jung sat down with host Jang Do Yeon to share various stories from her celebrated career.

When Jang Do Yeon mentioned the drama’s famous poster, saying, “I’ve seen that poster so many times, it’s iconic.” Im Soo Jung revealed a surprising fac that the iconic shot was never intended to be the poster at all. It was actually a candid still photo taken on set.

“These days, it’s more common to use on-set photos for posters, but back then it wasn’t,” she explained. “My co-star, So Ji Sub , and I were crouching next to a trash can, just waiting for the director’s cue for the next scene. The director was far away watching the monitor, and we were just waiting for the signal to go. A picture was snapped in that moment, and I guess the image just turned out to be really powerful.”

Jang Do Yeon then asked about one of the drama’s most famous lines: “Do you want to eat, or do you want to die with me?”

Im Soo Jung laughed and answered honestly, “When I first read that in the script, I thought, ‘What in the world is this line?’”

However, she said what shocked her more than the line itself was So Ji Sub’s delivery. “I expected him to say it calmly, something with the tone of, ‘Do you want to eat, or do you want to live with me?’” she recalled. “I had no idea he was going to deliver the line by screaming with such raw, intense emotion. I was completely shocked on set.”

I’m Sorry, I Love You tells the story of Moo Hyuk, who was adopted in Australia as a child and grew up on the streets, who then meets a woman named Eun-chae and falls into a tragically intense love.

The drama, which aired on KBS2 in 2004, was a cultural phenomenon at the time, leaving behind countless iconic scenes and lines. It has recently found a new audience and is gaining huge popularity among Gen Z viewers on streaming platforms like Wavve.
