Two of Korea’s biggest stars, IU and Byeon Woo Seok , are teaming up early.
The lead actors of the highly anticipated upcoming series Perfect Crown (working title) have confirmed they will make a joint appearance at the 2025 MBC Drama Awards .
The duo will attend the ceremony as presenters, according to a report by News1 on December 21st. The event will be broadcast live on December 30th at 8:50 PM KST .
This marks the very first time the two actors will appear together in public since their casting news broke. T heir joint appearance is expected to be the highlight of the night as the leads of MBC’s next flagship drama, offering fans a first glimpse of their visual chemistry before the drama’s official release next year.
Both actors are coming off massive years. IU recently solidified her status as an irreplaceable top star with her performance in the Netflix hit When Life Gives You Tangerines , while Byeon Woo Seok became a global sensation through Lovely Runner .
Perfect Crown is a romance set in a fictional modern-day South Korea that operates under a constitutional monarchy.
The story follows Seong Hee Joo (played by IU), a wealthy chaebol heiress who has everything except the social status she craves, and Lee Wan (Byeon Woo Seok), a King’s son who lacks of real power. The series will explore their journey as they forge their own destinies and overcome societal boundaries.
The ceremony will celebrate the network’s biggest hits of the year. Veteran host Kim Sung Joo, a fixture of the show since 2019, will return as MC, joined by actress Lee Sun Bin, the star of this year’s drama Let’s Go to the Moon .
The night will honor a strong lineup of 2025 dramas, including Motel California , Undercover High School , Crushology 101 , Oh My Ghost Clients , and Moon River .

Superstar IU is already looking ahead to the next award season.
Fresh off a dominant night at the 2025 Asia Artist Awards, where she took home six trophies, including the prestigious Actor of the Year, IU revealed a sweet conversation she had with her new co-star, Byeon Woo Seok.
The singer-actress is currently in the final stages of filming the MBC drama Perfect Crown alongside Byeon Woo Seok , which is slated to air in the first half of 2026.
“We were filming on set the day before I left for Kaohsiung,” IU shared with a smile. “When I mentioned I was leaving for the AAA ceremony, Byeon Woo Seok said, ‘Wow, that sounds fun.’ We even joked, ‘If Perfect Crown does well and people love it, won’t our team get invited to AAA 2026?’”

When asked about the possibility of returning next year to win a Best Couple award with Byeon Woo Seok, just as she did with Park Bo Gum this year, IU was enthusiastic.
“If Perfect Crown gets a lot of love and the AAA organizers decide to invite me again, I’d definitely be happy to be there,” she said. “It was truly such a joyful day.”
With 2025 coming to a close, IU opened up about her goals for the final month of the year.
“Filming is currently in its final stages, and everyone is working diligently,” she said. “My last goal for this year is to maintain focus until the very end and contribute wholeheartedly to this new project.”
She also dropped a hint that will excite music fans. “My only regret is not being able to have a concert, although I held a fan meeting this year,” she admitted. “I think I’ll be able to meet fans through performances next year.”
Finally, IU extended her congratulations to the Asia Artist Awards on its milestone anniversary. “It was wonderful to participate in the 10th anniversary. I believe AAA 2025 will be remembered as a joyful festival for everyone who attended,” she said.
She added a warm message to the organizers, saying, “Thank you for bringing happiness to so many people over the past 10 years. I hope to see you more often and for a long time to come!”
