IU has once again shared her generosity with the artists of Jeju Island.
On September 13th, the official Instagram of Social Museum revealed that a surprise gift had arrived at the Seonheul painting studio in Jeju just as preparations for the exhibition Countless to Measure were entering their final stages. The delivery? A large refrigerator sent by IU.
According to Social Museum, IU has personally visited the Seoul and Jeju exhibitions, purchased several paintings from the “halmang” (grandmother) artists, and expressed her gratitude with the message: “Thanks to your energy, my work is going well and I’m even sleeping better.” That message, the museum noted, came together with the new fridge.
The statement continued: “While working all day, the grandmothers shared a chilled watermelon from the new refrigerator, and their wrinkled faces lit up with smiles.” They then added that the gift had become “a symbolic object representing abundance and a new beginning for the Seonheul studio.” Just before sending their new exhibition brochure to print, the grandmothers taped one to the fridge, joking, “This marks a special start. May it give strength to the new show!”

This is not the first time IU has offered support. Back in June, she posted on Instagram, “Ae Sun came to keep my promise to the Jeju halmang artists,” documenting another visit to the Seonheul studio. The artist purchased over ten works and gifted the artists letters and luxury scarves.
IU recently starred in Netflix’s When Life Gives You Tangerines , released in March, where she played dual roles as Ae Sun and Geum Myeong. She is currently filming her next project, MBC’s 21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife (literal title).
