Jay Park’s new four-member boy group, LNGSHOT, is already sparking controversy, months before their official debut. The group is facing backlash after Jay Park posted photos of himself and the members giving the middle finger to the camera.

On September 20th, the hip-hop mogul and MORE VISION CEO shared the photos on his social media with a defiant caption. “My boys are handsome, right?” he wrote. “I’m not confident they’ll be the best-selling, but I am confident they’ll do K-pop in the coolest way.” He ended the post with the hashtag #middlefingertothenorm.

The post was immediately met with sharp criticism from Korean netizens, who felt the gesture was disrespectful and inappropriate for a new idol group.

“Why would idols be flipping people off?” one commenter wrote. Another added, “He’s lost his touch if he thinks a middle finger gesture is cool.” Others called the move “try-hard” and questioned the mentality of using the gesture as a first introduction to the public.
