BLACKPINK’s Jisoo has found herself back at the center of an acting controversy, this time following her big-screen debut in Omniscient Reader: The Prophet . But despite branching into acting years ago, Jisoo still hasn’t been able to shake the ‘wooden actress’ label.

The film, which opened on July 23rd, features Jisoo in a supporting role as Lee Ji Hye, a high school student who follows protagonist Yoo Jung Hyuk (Lee Min Ho). She’s a tough, no-nonsense survivor who believes only the strong deserve to live in this transformed world. Though her part is brief—clocking in at around five minutes—she makes key appearances at pivotal moments for Kim Dok Ja (Ahn Hyo Seop), leaving a lasting impression—at least on paper.

However, that brief appearance has sparked divided opinions. Many viewers say her delivery falls flat, citing stiff expressions, awkward vocal projection, and an emotionless, almost robotic tone. Her performance, some argue, disrupts the otherwise solid ensemble led by Ahn Hyo Seop, Lee Min Ho, Chae Soo Bin, and Shin Seung Ho.

“Has any actor had every project called out for bad acting like this? From ‘Snowdrop’ to ‘Newtopeia’ to now this—it’s all the same.”

“She really needs to work on her delivery.”

“Did they have to cast Jisoo? The second she showed up, I lost focus.”

“In the theater, people actually reacted when she came on. Don’t get me wrong, I like Jisoo, she’s gorgeous, but even I can’t defend that performance…”

“I didn’t know she was being criticized for her acting until after I saw the movie, but I get it now. She needs way more training.”

Others, however, came to her defense:

“Honestly, the movie flopped on its own. Why’s everyone acting like Jisoo ruined it?”

“She’s only on screen for five minutes. Isn’t all this hate a bit much?”

One consistent thread in post-release chatter is the scrutiny aimed at Jisoo’s acting—proving that star power alone won’t silence the critics, at least not yet.
