JYP Entertainment founder Park Jin Young has been officially appointed to a new government role.

He will serve as Co-Chairman of the soon-to-be-established Presidential Committee for Popular Culture Exchange, a high-level advisory body under the President’s office, alongside Choi Hee Young, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hoon Sik announced the appointment on Tuesday during a press briefing at the Presidential Office in Seoul. “Park Jin Young is one of Korea’s top singers and producers and has been a driving force in the globalization of K-pop,” Kang said.

He added, “Park will help build a culturally vibrant Korea, making our pop culture more accessible worldwide while also opening the door to diverse foreign cultures.”
