The former manager of the late actress Kim Sae Ron has been officially cleared of accusations related to hospital bill embezzlement.
On August 21st, Korean National Police Agency notified K, Kim’s ex-manager, that the case involving alleged violations of the Medical Service Act, the Personal Information Protection Act, and obstruction of business had been closed with a decision of “no charges due to insufficient evidence.” This follows entertainer Kwon Young Chan’s complaint in June, which he claimed was filed on behalf of Kim’s family for public interest purposes.
At the time, Kwon alleged that on March 14th—one month after Kim’s passing—an outpatient record under her name appeared in hospital files, suggesting unauthorized access. He also questioned a hospital payment from November 2023, where an initial charge of 5.4 million KRW (approximately $3,900 USD) for wrist surgery was later canceled and reprocessed at 4.98 million KRW (about $3,600 USD), suggesting possible embezzlement.
K denied all allegations, explaining: “Kim didn’t have insurance, so the surgery cost was close to 5 million KRW. She herself said the bill was around that amount, and I simply rushed to the hospital to cover it.”
A former agency representative backed him up, saying: “K left the company in December, but he cared for Kim more than anyone. Claims of embezzlement or forcing her to drink are not true. He even made sure she ate properly, and there were no issues with the hospital payment.”
Meanwhile, in response to the allegations, K filed his own lawsuit against Kwon Young Chan on June 19th for defamation. That case is still under investigation.
