Lee Min Jung revealed that she had an older sister who passed away before she was born.
The emotional story was shared in a video posted to her YouTube channel on September 30th, which documented a special date with her mother.
During a meal, Lee Min Jung’s mother recalled about raising her children when she misspoke, saying, “while raising my three children,” before correcting herself to, “while raising my two children.”
Sensing her mother’s hesitation, Lee Min Jung gently encouraged her. “It’s okay to talk about it,” she said. “There were three, but one passed away before I was born.”
Her mother then revealed the tragic story. “I lost the baby after a vaccination,” she explained. “She developed a fever.”
Lee Min Jung then shared how that past trauma affected her own childhood. “That’s why my mom would tremble so much whenever I had to get a shot,” she said. “I didn’t know the story as a kid, so I would think, ‘Why is mom crying? I’m fine.’ I would actually smile while getting my shots because my mom was crying so much.”
Her mother added, “I had a bit of a neurosis whenever the kids were sick. I was so scared something terrible would happen if they even had a little indigestion, so I couldn’t even feed them properly.”
Lee Min Jung also revealed she didn’t learn about her sister until high school. “I saw a photo of my mom holding a baby, but the baby wasn’t me,” she recalled with a laugh. “I was so shocked, I wondered if my mom had been married before. All sorts of thoughts went through my head, but then I learned what had happened.”
