The manager of a hostess club, already sentenced for blackmailing the late actor Lee Sun Kyun , has received an additional prison sentence for a separate drug conviction.

On Tuesday, the Seoul High Court upheld a one-year prison sentence for the 31-year-old woman on charges of illegal drug use. The court also mandated that she complete 40 hours of drug rehabilitation education. If this ruling is finalized, she will serve this year in addition to the five-and-a-half-year sentence she is already facing for the blackmail case.

In their decision, the judges highlighted the serious nature of her offenses. “Drug crimes are difficult to detect and carry a high risk of reoffending,” the court stated. “Given the types and frequency of drugs the defendant used, her responsibility is significant.”

However, the court also noted mitigating factors, adding that she “acknowledged and reflected on her crimes, demonstrating cooperation with the investigation.”

The woman has a long history of similar offenses, with six prior drug convictions. The latest charges were for using methamphetamine and marijuana on three occasions in 2023.

A 44-year-old doctor who was charged alongside her had his sentence reduced on appeal. Initially sentenced to two years, his term was lowered to one year and six months after he was acquitted on a charge of purchasing liquid cannabis. Investigators alleged the doctor had supplied the club manager with methamphetamine and ketamine three times between late 2022 and August 2023 at his hospital in Seoul’s Gangnam district.
