Lee Young Ae gave a rare update on her family life during a recent appearance on YouTube’s “Zzanbro” channel, hosted by Shin Dong Yeop, alongside co-stars Kim Young Kwang and Park Yong Woo from KBS’s new weekend drama Walking on Thin Ice .
The actress married businessman Jung Ho Young in 2009—twenty years her senior—and welcomed twins in 2011. Jung, a former chairman, is reported to have a fortune of about 2 trillion KRW (approx. 1.4 billion USD).
Speaking about her twins, Lee revealed her 15-year-old daughter has been exploring idol auditions. She also noted their contrasting personalities. “My son takes after his father, but my daughter is more like me—she’s really interested in idols, so she’s been going to auditions,” she said, adding that her daughter is currently studying vocal music at Sunhwa Arts Middle School.
Lee explained she hasn’t discouraged her daughter’s idol pursuits: “I don’t want her to someday say, ‘I couldn’t do it because of Mom,’ so I just let her try.” Known to be a devoted BTS ARMY herself, Lee added that she and her daughter also attend concerts together, including shows by TXT and BOYNEXTDOOR.
Still, she voiced concern that her daughter might see only the glamorous side of the business. “She thinks being an entertainer is too easy. Looking at me, she only sees the bright side, not the hardships behind it.”
Later in the show, Lee laughed as she admitted that she hesitates to drink in front of her children. “I worry they’ll think, ‘Maybe I should try alcohol too,’” she said. Host Shin Dong Yeop, well-known for his love for alcohol, lightened the moment, joking, “If that’s the standard, my kids should already be in juvenile detention,” before urging Lee not to treat her children like babies but as “individual people.”

As Shin Dong Yeob suggested a wave shot, Lee half-jokingly said that she needed her husband’s approval—prompting Shin to quip into the camera: “Are you watching, hyung? I’ve always wanted to be friends with you. Honestly, more than with your wife.”
