Travel and Days (literal translation) , starring South Korean actress Shim Eun Kyung, has won the Golden Leopard prize at the 78th Locarno Film Festival.
Shim’s agency, Fanfare, announced the news on August 18th, following the festival’s closing ceremony in Switzerland on August 16th.
The Locarno Film Festival was founded in 1946 and is now one of the world’s most prestigious and longest-running film events, celebrated for showcasing artistic and innovative cinema from around the globe.
Shim Eun Kyung was joined on stage by director Sho Miyake and delivered her acceptance speech in Korean. “I wanted to express my thoughts in my native language since so many people are watching from around the world,” she explained.
“It is an honor, and I am deeply thankful to be able to participate in such a prestigious event,” Shim said. “This film holds great meaning for me, and I hope that through the Locarno Film Festival, it can reach an even wider audience.”
Travel and Days has been highly anticipated, largely due to the collaboration between Shim and director Sho Miyake, an acclaimed young filmmaker who has been gaining significant international recognition. Shim has also established herself as a global talent, having already become the first Korean actress to win Best Actress awards in both Korea and Japan.
The film is scheduled for release in Korea in the second half of this year.
