Shin Eun Soo is opening up about her chemistry with co-star Gong Myung .
On September 3rd, the actress sat down with Newsen for an interview for her Netflix’s coming-of-age romance film Love Untangled (directed by Namkoong Sun). The film follows Park Se Ri (Shin Eun Soo), a 19-year-old girl in 1998 who, on the brink of her first-ever love confession to the school’s heartthrob, hatches a plan to straighten her lifelong complex—her frizzy curls—only to get tangled up with transfer student Han Yoon Seok (Gong Myung).
Reflecting on the finished project, Shin Eun Soo said, “We filmed around this time last year, and I really loved how it turned out. I hoped audiences would feel the same way we did, and I think they did, so I’m relieved.”
Gong Myung revealed in an interview the day before that he teared up during the screening—a detail Shin Eun Soo confirmed with a laugh: “He even cried at the premiere. I didn’t cry myself—my eyes just welled up a bit—but he’s definitely more sensitive than I am.”
Despite their 8-year age gap, Shin Eun Soo said working with Gong Myung felt effortless. “He treated me with such warmth that I never felt the age difference. He’s amazing at blending in with younger castmates and making it feel like we’re all the same age,” she explained. “We tend to get really hyper on set, and whenever things got too chaotic, he’d step up and keep us focused. There were so many times we couldn’t stop laughing, but he’d say ‘We should focus,’ and we’d calm down.”
Her praise didn’t stop there. “He’s genuinely kind and, of course, very handsome,” she said. “I leaned on him a lot. It had been a while since I carried such a big role, and without him, the pressure would’ve been overwhelming.”
She added, “I had a lot on my mind while acting, but he was always considerate. He gave me the space to perform the way I wanted, and he embodied Yoon Seok so naturally. Watching the film, I realized just how detailed and delicate he is in showing the emotions. I kept thinking, ‘Everyone’s gonna fall for him.’”
The film also features a sweet kiss between the two stars, which Shin Eun Soo recalled with a shy smile: “It was such an innocent, fluttery moment. We wanted to keep the atmosphere ticklish and lighthearted.”
