Netflix has locked in October 17th for the global premiere of its new feature Good News , unveiling a teaser poster and release date trailer.

The film, which has already been officially invited to the Special Presentations section of the 50th Toronto International Film Festival, is set in 1970 and follows a desperate mission to force a hijacked passenger plane to land—at any cost.

The teaser poster features a striking image of the Korean Peninsula with Sol Kyung Gu as the mysterious fixer known only as Amugae and Hong Kyung as elite Air Force lieutenant Seo Go Myeong. The story begins when a passenger jet is hijacked by a Japanese communist group and diverted toward Pyongyang, prompting the Japanese and Korean governments to launch unusual countermeasures.

Amugae, a shadowy figure with no name or official position, receives a direct order from Central Intelligence Director Park Sang Hyun (Ryu Seung Bum): bring the plane down safely, no matter the cost. Using his quick wit and adaptability, Amugae devises a secret mission. Meanwhile, Seo Go Myeong, reluctantly pulled into the operation, must deceive the hijackers and “re-hijack” the passenger jet from the ground in a race against time.

The newly released trailer teases the film’s mix of tension and dark humor, opening with Amugae’s line: “Reveal events that happened, a little bit of creativity, and the willingness to suspend disbelief. If these three components come together…” As suspense builds, the footage shows Kimpo Airport transformed into Pyongyang Airport, underscoring the extraordinary lengths the team will go to execute their plan. The exchange—Seo Go Myeong declaring, “Sometimes, even the truth lies,” with Amugae countering, “And lies also tell the truth”—leaves viewers wondering if their mission will truly deliver the kind of “good news” promised by the title.

Good News premieres worldwide October 17, exclusively on Netflix.
