Netflix has released the main poster and trailer for its upcoming feature Good News , a tense 1970s hijack thriller that’s already turned heads at the Toronto International Film Festival and Busan International Film Festival.
Set against a high-stakes Cold War backdrop, the film follows a group of unlikely players brought together to land a hijacked plane at any cost. Leading the charge is a mysterious fixer known only as Amuge ( Sol Kyung Gu ). Sharing the spotlight is elite Air Force lieutenant Seo Go Myeong ( Hong Kyung ) who smiles under the tagline, “A hijacked flight bound for Pyongyang.” Rounding out the poster, Central Intelligence Agency chief Park Sang Hyun (Ryu Seung Bum) makes his presence felt, raising questions about how these figures will execute a plan that borders on the absurd.

The trailer kicks off with Sol Kyung Gu’s line, “Good news, bad news. Which one do you want first?” before plunging into chaos: a passenger plane is hijacked and its captors demand to be flown to Pyongyang. Suddenly thrust into the role of a key player, Hong Kyung’s Seo Go Myeong balks at a plan to hijack the plane’s communications. But Amuge tempts him with ambition: “Don’t you want a medal?” Soon, Seo can’t resist the chance to make his mark, asking his superiors, “May I say this is North Korea?” as the audacious scheme takes flight.
Adding another layer of intrigue is Ryu Seung Bum’s Park Sang Hyun, who coolly orchestrates the mission with a disarming mix of wit and irony even as the clock ticks toward disaster. Meanwhile, inside the aircraft, tension simmers with Sho Kasamatsu as Denji, the armed leader of a Japanese militant group, and Nairu Yamamoto as Asuka, his steely second-in-command, both poised to strike at any moment.
The trailer teases explosive set pieces, including a daring plan to transform Gimpo Airport into Pyongyang, paired with large-scale action sequences that underline the film’s blend of suspense, dark humor, and spectacle.
Good News premieres worldwide on Netflix on October 17th.
