Son Ye Jin , Lee Byung Hun and other notable stars, set the red carpet a glow with their marvelous looks and demure demeanor. However, despite the joyous occasion, actress Son Ye Jin was spotted crying during the event. Immediately after the premiere of director Park Chan Wook’s new film No Other Choice , lead actress Son Ye Jin burst into tears.
The cast of No Other Choice were invited for the film to compete at the 82nd Venice Film Festival and was screened there for the first time in the world on the 29th.
The film tells the story of Man So ( Lee Byung Hun ), a fired office worker who faces escalated challenges to protect his family as he prepares to re-enter the workforce. Son Ye Jin played the role of Mi Ri, Man-so’s wife, who acts as the glue and balances the shaken family’s life as they struggle by Man-so’s job loss.
Son Ye Jin shed tears after the first screening. She expressed to reporters, “This may be a once in a lifetime moment that may not come again. I may come back to Venice again someday, but this is the first and last time I will experience this feeling with this cast,” she said, explaining the reason for his tears was because, “My heart was completely overcome with emotion.”
She continued, “This is my first time at an overseas film festival. I just imagined the feeling of stepping on the red carpet and receiving a standing ovation in the theater. It was so dreamy and touching to be there with my beloved director and colleagues.”
Son Ye Jin also said that she was moved by the fans from all over the world who cheered on the red carpet of the premiere screening, saying, “I am very grateful, and I am very touched that they love our culture and story, even if there is a difference in language.”
To our surprise, Son Ye Jin actually said that she hesitated to appear after receiving the script for the first time. “I usually thought of taking on the roles only I can do so Mi Ri seemed to be okay for another actor to play. But because the story is tragic, cruel, painful, salty, and strangely funny, these things went very well with each other. If I could contribute even a little in an ensemble like this, I thought it would be an honor just to participate.”
Son Ye Jin further expressed her respect for director Park, calling him an “artist.” She further said, “I think Park has a very good ability to catch awkward acting situations and pays attention to detail,” and added, “Normally, even if it goes unnoticed, he catches all the cases and changes them. I thought he had a natural eye.”
